First day of toilet training & DS 2.5yrs seems to be already frustrated at me asking him does he need to go to the toilet. I ask if he needs to go and he says no but I say let's go sit anyway on the toilet and generally he will go for a wee. I usually ask say every 45mins - Am I asking too much ?

We didn't ask, we just announced it was toilet time. It was only as he got reliable after a few days we would ask.

I'm on week two of TT. I read don't ask to start with because it gives them the option to say no. So as PP said don't ask just announce.
I'm starting to ask now as DS is getting it (still a couple accidents but it's clicking).

I agree with the PP who said to "announce" rather than "ask" to go to the toilet, that way there's no arguments. I did that every 30 mins and gave my kids a small drink every 30 mins as well to keep their fluids flowing through. So I guess my TTing was a combination of toilet timing and toilet training.

For us it was "reminding" to go to the toilet, not necessarily asking "Do you need to go". I did hourly. But with DD2, she got really frustrated with me telling her all the time, she could hold on for a really long time, so I didn't need to remind her so often, once I backed off she just started going when she needed to. It's different for every child.

Thanks Ladies, I have gone with the announce approach now, everytime I asked it was "no I don't need to go", but everytime I put him on he would go.
