Crabs in the freezer - how to stop the smell?

DH caught two big crabs yesterday and put them in the freezer inside a little esky, to kill them (he thinks that's kinder than hitting them or dropping them in hot water - that's another issue).
Even though they are enclosed in the esky, every time i open the freezer ( a deep freezer) a stench comes out like a bad fart.
It's so horrible.
Is there a smell proof way to freeze fresh shell fish?

I heard bicarb soda sucks up bad freezer smells - certainly when you are cleaning it out - not sure about when it's full of stuff. You could always pour some into an open container and sit it in there for a bit to see if helps.

I very rarely freeze fresh shellfish, however i find once the crab is out of the freezer the smell usually dissapears as well.
I usually have the shells in my freezer until bin day & i find they don't have much smell at all. Fresh shellfish never lasts very long in my house.

I don't know if they are in bags, I'm too scared to look. But they are in a small closed esky.
I feel sick at the thought of them freezing to death. I don't even like shellfish to eat. Anyway that's another matter...
