Hypnosis to stop bad habits

Has anyone tried hypnosis to stop bad habits? Did it work?

I have a bad habit I'd like to stop but can't seem to do it in the long term.

(Also, if possible, can anyone recommend someone in Perth, SOR?)

DP is going to one on the weekend! im going to see how he goes and then i think ill give it ago. shes in kalamunda.

I know two people who have used hypnosis to quit smoking.

The first quit outright.

The second went from smoking 2+ packs a day to barely 2-4 cigarettes a day. (This was a 50 something year old man, highly stressful job, had smoked for over 40 years. Not a bad result I reckon).

Not quite a bad habit, but I've had hypnosis to treat my IBS. Basically to reprogram my habitual negative thoughts & reactions with more positive ones, so I could stop making the pain/nausea worse with that extra level of anxiety. I imagine it would work similarly for bad habits.

It was quite a long term process for me, but very beneficial, and not just in that aspect of my life. I saw a psychologist - my GP referred me on a mental health plan, so I got six (I think?) sessions covered by Medicare.

This was at St John Of God Subi, so not SOR.

I tried it for smoking but it didn't work. However, I now use it to deal with migraines. I use a hypnotherapy app on my iphone and listen to it and it never fails to send me to sleep (and thus avoid the pain). So not sure whether I think it works or not.

I tried it to stop my terrible procrastinating habit. It didn't work at all.

A friend has done it a couple of times for smoking and it works for a little while. I think his drinking brings him back though.

Another it worked for (smoking again) she hasnt smoked in a couple years now.

I tried it for my needle phobia and it seemed to start to work but I needed many many more sessions. Being pregnant at the time and how I react to needles they ended up saying it was unsafe to continue trying and I should go for full sessions after DD was born.
The couple sessions I did have while pregnant enabled them to be able to have a syringe set up ready to go and the torniquet (sp?) around (not tight) my arm. Before that I would have blacked out at the sight of syringe not even making it to the chair or bed.
