Does anyone know what the requirements are for a childcare centre and airconditioning? Is it a legal requirement?

Current situation is childcare centre has icy cold airconditioning in the Main area and staff areas, however there is none in any of the kids rooms. The kids rooms also do not have great airflow, which results in the rooms being hot and stuffy.

I have spoken to the centre and they keep saying they are waiting for the units to be installed but don't know when that will be. This has been ongoing for almost a year. This is also a new centre if that makes any difference.

Here's some info for you...

Penalty: $2000.

Thank you.

I think I might need to make some calls tomorrow. We leave the centre at the end of next week, but I would like to see the kids in a cooler environment, than what they were in today.

Good on you!

I bet the staff in the rooms will be thankful too. The centre is probably just trying to save money on their electricity bill.

All done.

I called DEEWR this morning, and they gave me the contact details for the body that looks after this sort of thing.

I have called them and they are going to follow up with the childcare centre and the building owner to find out what is going on and what they can do to assist the centre.

Seems that Air-conditioning is not a requirement, however adequate ventilation is as well as the ability to keep the children and educators in a comfortable environment. They are going to chase up the status of the air-conditioning though.

Fingers crossed there are some changes or help coming for the centre.
