Recommend me a frypan?

Our frypan has just about had it - the non-stick stuff is all coming off and everything tends to burn. Which is quite annoying as I think we paid more than $100 for it and it's only about 5 years old.

I'm thoroughly confused about what to get next. I want a frypan that will last for years and years, cook evenly, doesn't need tons of oil etc. Probably willing to spend up to $200.

Can anyone recommend me a frypan they love?

I have a tefal frying pan have had it for yrs and its still going strong also have a lidded cheapie from big w thats awesome as well original.gif

I had that same problem! Grrr... I ended up buying a le creuset (sp?) which should last forever. I think though it was about $300 but i figured i would save on buying frypans in the long run. HTH original.gif

I have a $3 cheapy that is 7 years old and going strong.  It was originally 'non-stick' (whatever that means for a $3 frying pan), but I've just treated it like a cast iron pan and seasoned it well, and it's much better than actual non-stick.

I would love a proper cast iron pan too, but this one is much lighter.

Jamie Oliver here. Love it. I only buy his stuff when Myer or DJs have a 40% sale though. Otherwise Peters of Kensington usually have them on sale.

We use Scanpan, we have non stick ones and stainless steel ones and we have found them all to be of very high quality.

I second that. I recently got a really good deal on a set from Peter's and they are awesome!

I've got a scanpan as well and it's isn't as good

The German brands, SKK and Woll, are the best for non-stick - I've had mine since last century.

Scanpan are good unless you want to actually fry something in your frying pan wink.gif.  They go non-stick really quickly.

Same here.  Got one that I've had for over a year, and recently got another of a different size.  Love them soooo much.  Kitchenware Direct often have sales on them.

I don't think you have to look farther than Scanpan. This one is just the perfect size for scrambled eggs and omelettes.

I've recently bought myself one of these   Happycall pan

It is great with little or no oil, depending on what I'm cooking, faster than a 'normal' pan and there is no mess/oil splatters or much steam/smoke!

I love it  biggrin.gif

I bought mine on one of those deal sites (can't remember which as it took forever to get here, lol) but I've seen them other places online too.

Definately Tefal - got it from Target. They pretty regularly have good homewares sales.

Stay away from Scanpan. You really only can cook with them on a low heat or it ruins them. There has been a few threads on this previously.

I have all Circulon 'Infinite' saucepans and fry pans - they're brilliant, last for ages and have non-stick that just works forever.

Massive thumbs up for them! You can often get them cheaply on sale at Myer or online (I got my saucepans from KitchenWare Direct).

I've had a Tefal for 5 years and it is starting to need to be replaced so I personally wouldn't recommend them, I paid over $100 for it as well.

I would Avoid scanpan... I've relegated my second one to the back of the cupboard... ( I have the second one because I returned the first after 2 years under their lifetime warranty)

It was a wedding present, so I'm kinda glad I didn't spend any money on it

While it's true that spray oil and olive oil are not good for teflon (and scanpan is a type of teflon) it's simply not true that you can use other vegetable oils at high heat and not munt the scanpan.

I have problems and I followed their guidelines except for the one where you only cook at a low to medium heat.  I want to brown the meat, not stew it.

Scanpans are lovely while they are in good condition but they are not worth the money in the long run.  They don't honour the warranty usually as they clearly state not to use the pans at a an actual frying heat.

I bought a couple of the Aldi stainless steel pans and I like them except for the handles which heat up.  I am most fond of my cast iron pans though.

Ive been using a Tefal Ingenio for 3 years or so now, and love it - the pan itself is great, and the click off handle is brilliant!. (also got the pots too - super fab)
Also one that is a thicker base that has been going non stop for 8 years is my Chefs Toolbox one - they're a party plan, but oh my, they just go and go and go.. I love it! - and would highly recommend it if you can get your hands on one.

(oh, and by the way, I just love the expression 'munt' it.. so using it!)

Thanks for all the suggestions! Myer seems to have some good specials on Le Cruset and Circulon, so I'll go have a closer look at those ones.

If Scanpan is a must, then make sure it's made in Denmark not China.
