We recently had family photos taken. I saw a few sneak peeks and was really happy with them. I received our disc today and there are some lovely shots of the kids but out of 20-30 family shots, not one has all of us looking/eyes open. I realise there are 5 of us so it would be difficult but its left me a little disappointed as this is prob the only time we will get professional photos.

I guess what I wanted to ask was is this normal? Should the photographer have noticed this at the time?

Nothing I can do about it now I know, just sad as we were going to get a nice family one printed for the grandparents

A professional photographer should definately have been able to get at least one good shot of all you with eyes open/looking at the camera. Skill often depends on price so if you paid $150 you're not going to get the quality and skill of someone who charges $1,000. How much did you pay and what was offered in the price?

I got a special for $150. It included unlimited photos and all edited and on disc. I knew it was cheap ( normally costs more then that) but I had looked at her work and they all looked great.

I wasn't expecting 100s of fantastic photos for that price but was hoping for at least one nice photo of all of us. That said, I am more then happy with the photos we got of the kids.

I would have expected at least one shot of you all with your eyes open, no matter how much you pay!

Absolutely, I would be telling her you are unhappy also. She may even offer to re-shoot.

I would definitely not be happy!  I think you should be able to expect at least one reasonable family shot.

Ask for a re shoot!
Any half decent photographer should be horrified!

Oh goodness, seems I owe my photographer an apology. I had another look at my disc this morning and there are over 800 photos. Yesterday it was only showing me around 50 for some reason.

I am soo happy, found lots of family photos where we all look good.  Also found some more great ones of the kids. I tried to pick a few favourites but only got it down to 110 lol.

Now for my next question.... What do I do with them all? Do I get them made I to a book? ( a few will be going onto canvas but not 110) will it be a bit strange a book full of photos taken at the same time?

If DH can photograph 5 teams with 16 girls per team, and get at least 4 good shots of everyone doing what they should. Then a professional should have been able to get at least 1 of your family.

800 photos?  ohmy.gif

Um, I'd pick 10 to have enlarged for frames around the house and one canvas/framed and leave the rest on the CD.   Just wouldn't want 800 photos of one day in our lives.

Glad you're happy.

Make a photobook of the day, I think around 20 pages would be nice. And use perhaps 30-40 of your best photos. I think it would look great. Then you could get a couple blown up and displayed. I'm glad it worked out. Although I'm not sure why she gave you 800 photos, that seems very excessive. She should have culled the number herself before giving them to you.

Sorry but if you paid $150 for all photos on CD then I don't believe it was a professional. Sounds like someone either learning or portfolio building.

Unfortunately it sounds like you got what you paid for.

Honestly I don't know a professional that would give 800 odd photos all on CD!
