I love it. It's on my own list, well it is as a nickname. I've known a few, but not in Australia.

It's traditionally/commonly short for Isaac. Isaacs where I'm from tend to be called either Ike or Izzy - I prefer Ike.

I think it's lovely, especially as a nickname for Isaac.

The only negative is that it makes me think of Ike Turner.

Please don't hate me for thinking of Ike Turner, who wasn't very nice by all accounts.

My grandfather's name was Ivan but he was called Ike.

I can't say I associate Ike/Isaac with any one person. Too many associations, and too many different people I've known, rather like Kate or Johnny or other common, classic (nick)names.

See, I saw the heading and started singing:

"My grandma and your grandma, sitting by the fire...."   biggrin.gif   showing my age... wink.gif

ETA - NMS as too abrupt and too short for me.

I like it as a NN for Isaac, but not as a name on its own. Ike doesn't have any associations for me.

Reminds me of Ike Eisenhower, who was literally one of the greatest Presidents of the United States ever.

#17 ninaswalk

Yeah I thought of Ike Turner but don't think that association will last too much longer.  Tina is long gone IYKWIM and am pretty sure most of the next generation will have no idea who Ike Turner was.
Don't know Ike from South Park so no worries there for me.
When I googled it lots about Ike Einsenhower came up - and the "I like Ike" slogan - though I'd never really associated it with him before.

It's the only name DH and I both love.  We like Isaak too so might make that the "official" name and use Ike as the NN.  I think I prefer the 'k' in Isaak if we're using Ike as the NN.

I know one Ike - he's 6, and just Ike not a nickname. I like it.

#20 kerilyntaryn

it's not too bad - but is used as a nn for Isaac or Dwight

perhaps a stretch to Mike, Micah, Ryker

A few people call my son Ike. His name is Isaac.  original.gif

I think Eisenhower got it not for Dwight itself but because Eisey sounds a bit like Izzy but yeah. And maybe he didn't want to use Dwight all the time for some reason. wink.gif
