Hi we are planning an extended trip for July 2013 and it will begin with around 8 months in Asia.

I am looking for opinions on where you loved and hated and where your must-see's would be.

We are a family with 2 children who will be 6 and 3 by then, but who are well-travelled.

Any information would be great; from cities to hotels/houses, to food, to beaches and beyond.

Vietnam - Phu Quoc, Halong Bay & Ho Chi Min

Cambodia - you must go to Siam Reap, the people are amazing and so are the temples. No a lot of 'free to roam travel in Cambodia though due to the still risk of land mines in more out of the way places but Siam Reap is very safe.

North Sumatra - Lake Toba, stay on Samosir Island.
