Hi Ladies,

I lost a filling today and have heard it's not safe to have dental work done.... What would you do? I'm not currently in pain but don't know if it will be ok to leave for 12'weeks ( until bub is born)?

Thanks!

I had a check up done around 30 weeks, but not work done. I just let the dentist know I was pregnant (although it was fairly obvious by then) and we left the x-rays until the next visit. Maybe just ring the dentist and check? They should be aware of what is ok during pregnancy

I think there is far more danger from leaving a tooth that needs filling. sad.gif
Dentists will defer non urgent and cosmetic procedures until after the pregnancy but second and third trimester the risks are low.
Some women find it uncomfortable lying on their backs in the third trimester so it is good to get your dentist to allow you sit up or have a little walk around mid procedure if necessary.

I had a check up just before getting PG last time, and all was good. Despite that, a big piece of tooth fell out when I was 6 months PG, with no warning!

My dentist didn't x-ray, tried to go light on the anaesthetic, but otherwise, we had to fix it. I think there's a slightly increased risk of infection from dental work, but there are greater risks from untreated problems like missing filling etc.

I've noticed my gums and wisdom teeth are really sensitive and prone to inflammation again this PG, and I'm looking fwd to getting my wisdom teeth out once baby's here. (This was obviously a big one we've deferred!)
