1. Charlie - We are really keen on Charlie, but neither of us are keen on the name Charles - even saying it out loud sounds a little weird. If we're going to call him a name, we should be able to use the proper version. Would you call your son Charles and then never actually use it?

2. Fred - We both quite like the name Fred. Is Fred a proper name on its own, or is it a nickname from Fredrick?

3. Errol is our third option - but for some reason every one in our parents' generation hates this name with a passion! To quote my MIL; "You know, that Errol Flynn had syphillis!" Gee thanks for that!

What do you think of our 3 names so far? FYI the middle name will be William.

Ashleigh Elizabeth - we will remember you always
My father is a Fred (Fredrick) and HATES it. He goes by his middle name just to avoil it.

Errol - Um, no. Thats the nicest way I can put that.

Charlie - YES! Love the name and considering how much I dont like the others... go for this! I wouldnt name it Charles though.

Lol, they're all from Harry Potter! Hope your surname isn't Weasley! - although Errol is only an owl.

I like Errol the best - totally quirky and distinctive.

The other two are good as well, but only as nicknames for Charles and Frederick.

I don't like any of them sorry.

In order they would be:

Charlie- I would use Charles as the full name, regardless of wether you choose to use it. At least he has the option of using it when he is older and may prefer it to the more juvenile Charlie.

Fred

Errol sad.gif I think Errol is all sorts of terrible.

Can William be the first name? I much prefer William Charles, William Charlie, William Fred or William Errol.

My godson is named Charlie. Not Charles.

The other two names aren't something I would choose. Although my FILs name is Fred.

I like the suggestion of William.

like Charlie but not something I would personally put on a birth certificte. I adore Charlton though with the nickname Charlie

I think of Fred as a nickname- how about Alfred?

I think Errol is ok original.gif

I LOVE Charlie wub.gif I'm not too keen on Charles but I can see why people prefer to have that as the full name, with Charlie as a nn.

Fred is NMS but I actually don't mind the nn Freddie for a little boy happy.gif

Errol is just terrible sorry blush.gif Charlie is a million times better than this one!

I agree with the PP and really like William too, is there a reason why you can't use that as a first name?

My pick would definately be Charlie wub.gif

Sorry definitely not my style. Charles is the pick out of them. If you can try for William as his first name or Will.

I really like Charles.. It sounds regal, mature & sophisticated. Charlie is a wonderful NN.

I have a friend named Frederick, who I've never called Frederick as he introduced himself as Fred.

Errol reminds me of the Australian Crawl song & I'm sorry it seems an awful name to burden someone with (IMO)

I like PP suggestion of Charlton.

Have you considered Bernard (wub.gif), Francis, Alfred, Stanley, Leo, Roger, Ralph...
