1. Tell us about your business Go Bubba Go
Go Bubba Go was born in January 2007; the business strategy was to sell quality products for bubs on the go. As the name suggests, ‘Go Bubba Go’ stocks a range of products that we believe will help parents continue to live an active life. We look for products with unique design, made from quality materials, and multi purpose features that can easily adapt to the needs of a family.
2. Why did you start your business?
I just had my second baby and in my search for the right pram I found the ABC Adventure Buggy. I absolutely loved this pram and knew that other active parents would too. At the time it wasn’t easy to find and buy in the shops or online. Over lunch one weekend a friend gave me the idea to sell this pram online myself. I started out thinking it would be something small for me to do while I was at home with my children, but quickly realised there was quite a demand for the Adventure Buggy range of products.
3. What were you doing before?
Studying Nutrition before deferring to have our second baby and had planned to take it easy for a little while.
4. Has running your own business lived up to expectations?
Yes the business has by far exceeded my expectations, which has been wonderful. Go Bubba Go now sells a great range of products as well as distributing the ABC Adventure Buggy worldwide.
5. What have you enjoyed the most so far?
Working for myself and setting my own hours, creating a career that allows me to be around my children. I manage to do a lot of my work from home and love not having to leave home in the mornings for work.
6. What is the biggest challenge?
Finding more hours in my day to fit everything in, I could be more organised…
7. Leanne, do you have any children – what are their names/ages?
Yes, 2 beautiful girls, Luella 6 yrs and Ellyse is 2 yrs
8. Logistically, how do you manage your work and childcare?
Luckily for me, my husband helps a lot with Go Bubba Go and home. We are both around for our daughters and take turns with school drop offs and pick ups, tennis lessons, swim lessons, etc. I also have a baby sitter that looks after our girls one day a week so far!
9. What is the hardest element of being a working mother?
Definitely time management. Working from home with my laptop can become a trap and a distraction. The key is to allocate certain times for emails, which is normally while the little ones are sleeping.
10. What do you think about 'me time'? With demanding hours as well as small children, do you manage to get it and what do you like to do?
I love ‘me time’ and think it is very important to find some each week. When I do get some I like to go to the gym and zone out on the treadmill.
11. Have there been times when you’ve thought ‘this is just too hard!’ and considered giving up your work to become a full time mum?
Yes, starting up my own business from scratch has been extremely challenging and at times I’ve definitely thought is it all worth it. However my family is very supportive and I’m very passionate about Go Bubba Go. I couldn’t imagine no longer being a part of it.
12. Do you have anyone you particularly admire in the business community?
I have a number of girlfriends that have embarked on their own businesses and followed their passions. Mothers in business have to juggle many balls and wear different hats and I admire them all for that.
13. Where do you see Go Bubba in 5 years?
I see the business continuing to grow with in Australia and overseas. I would like to have opened a Go Bubba Go retail store in each major capital city in Australia.
14. Do you have any advice for anyone out there who may be thinking about starting their own business?
I say go for it, follow your heart and make your dreams a reality. If you are passionate, determined and able to take the risk, whether it is big or small it’s certainly worth a go. Life’s too short to wonder what if!
