A new mum shared a hilarious photo of her partner during labour that lots of dads will relate to.

Showing a mixture of terror, shock and determination, he also looks quite concerned about the damage that's being done to his hand while she squeezes it during a contraction.

Alisha Baxter shared the image to her Facebook page, with the caption: "I thought I'd share this photo of my partner while I was in labour. Every time I look at his face and how squished his fingers are I crack up".

And his expression is cracking lots of us up all over the internet!

It's an expression lots of us have seen in our birth partner but never managed to capture because, you know, we were busy powering our way through a contraction or giving birth.

Alisha's cousin managed to take the picture while Alisha laboured next to her.

There is so much focus on what mums go through during labour, but we don't often get to see the emotional (and sometimes physical) journey of the dads. This image captures that journey perfectly, and is a moving testament to the hand injuries of birth partners everywhere.

The image has certainly struck a chord with parents, attracting nearly 6000 comments including:

Another mum shared her story:

"I bent my hubby's wedding ring from squeezing his hand so tight when I was in labour with our first so when I was in labour with our second he took his ring off."

New dad Jive told the Daily Mail, "Us blokes go through a lot of pain as well. As you can see in my face. Just be there and do as you're told or you will end up hurt."

Alisha said, "At the time of the picture I was starting to push after nearly 24 hours of labour. [Jive] wasn't saying anything, he was just really nervours. Before we were in the birthing suite he had a little moment crying because he couldn't help me through the pain.

"Once he finished having his moment and it came close to me pushing he was great."

Alisha and Jive's baby girl Blakely was born soon after this photo was taken, and the family is doing well.
