Super Dad
This chapter is dedicated to our partners for a thousand reasons.
It's funny how during the pregnancy we feel they are the lucky ones, they don't have to carry this belly that grows by the minute, they don't have to have morning sickness, have their body change, fuller painful breasts, be sleep deprived, heartburn, etc. They just need to support us and cope with our mood swings (and do most of the house tasks especially towards the end).
I know it is a tough job too but we definitely play a bigger part on the first 9 months. And I can't complain at all, Jon has been amazing on supporting me during this time!
But now, after the delivery, it's all new, a different phase.
I was always told about how tough the caesarean recovery is but now I am fully aware what that means, it's mainly pain, drugs, sleeping loads, finding thousands of bruises in your body, more drugs, more sleep, being on a wheel chair to see your babies, etc...
I was barely awake that whole afternoon and full next day after the caesarean. In the meantime, Jon has been the best father (and husband) anyone could wish for.
What we don't know on those situations is that our partners see and hear much more than us during this critical moment. They take it on the chin with a smile on their face so we don’t really worry about anything but recovering quickly.
While I was panicking with the shakes and throwing up during the caesarean, Jon was hearing things about our babies. The one in distress came out not breathing at all and very anaemic!
Jon had to try calming me down about pain, ignoring everything around, while at the same time he was hearing the doctors resuscitating his son!
This is the one that was in distress in my belly and he is also the reason the caesarean was done immediately. Rafael Thomas, the one that suffered the TTTS that I mentioned previously chapter (he is one of the identical twins – that shared the same placenta).
His weight is good (1,54kg) but he is not very well. His situation is concerning.
While I've been sleeping Jon has been around the hospital and understanding everything that has happened.
Patrick Luis, the other identical looks great, good colour, great physique, 2,02kg. Big cute boy!
And the third brother, Felipe Thomas, is also looking good with his 1,65 kg. A charmer!
There were both taken to the Special Care Nursery, mainly to be observed closely and they will probably stay there for 6 weeks.
Rafael is in the Neo Natal Intensive Care (NICU) and its getting all sorts of transfusions. He is a little fighter with lots of problems, low blood count, low glucose and mainly, both kidneys not working.
Jon goes see the boys 24x7, he worries and celebrate every little step.
This is not a quick fix and we are sad that we cannot fully celebrate yet, but we are over the moon with our 3 baby boys. We are so happy with every step we took on this journey since day one (or chapter one of this blog :)
We love our cheeky boys, and despite everyone saying how things will get busy, WE DON'T CARE! We just can't wait to take home 3 healthy kids and change 170 nappies a week (yup, this number is correct). We will do anything for those boys!
People who talk about how busy it will be, don’t know the risks of a multiple pregnancy. That has been my only concern the whole way… every time someone mentioned the work, I always replied with a smile "I sure hope so"! :)
