Mobile paternity testing truck hits NY streets
Daddy dilemmas ... The 'Who's Your Daddy?' truck on the streets of New York.
This one’s from the ‘what is the world coming to?’ files – or the ‘why didn’t I think of that first?’ department, depending on your point of view.
A New York man has created the world’s first 'Who’s Your Daddy?' truck, a mobile DNA paternity testing vehicle.
We deal with a lot of drama. It’s constant drama
Jared Rosenthal, the owner/operator of the vehicle, says his customers are mostly men with a child in tow. For around US$350, he takes swabs from the mouths of the adult and child, then sends the samples to a lab for testing. Results can be expected within a few weeks.
“[Customers] flag us down, they pull us over, they talk to us,” Jared Rosenthal told CBS Two News.
“And we have people that want to get the specimen from their spouse without them knowing about it.”
While the CBS News team was filming, an anonymous man approached the van for a test.
“I’m not sure if [the child is] mine,” he explained. “I’m paying child support anyway, and I will continue doing it … but I just want to know.”
Rosenthal said his role is “half psychologist” as well as driver/swab-taker, and that he sees a variety of moods in his customers, from anger and sadness to happiness.
“We deal with a lot of drama. It’s constant drama,” he said.
It’s not known how many people have used the mobile testing truck’s services, or how long Rosenthal has been in business.
But as one passerby noted, “He’s always going to have customers … unfortunately.”
