Choosing a baby name both parents agree on is no easy feat. But what happens when your preferences are wildly different? That's the conundrum one couple are facing ahead of the birth of their baby boy - and it's descended into quite the argument.

"My husband and I are expecting our first child - a boy - in a couple of months," the mama-to-be shared in a post to Reddit. "My husband and his parents are all math geniuses and wanted his name to include some math reference."

The mum admitted that she thought it was a "cute and funny idea", adding that she suggested "Dylan, Jared and Loren."

But it wasn't quite what dad had in mind.

"My husband was like 'um, yeah. I was thinking Cube.' Like a Rubik Cube," she continues. "I thought he was joking but he was serious. I told him that was the stupidest name ever. He told me to think of it as 'Cute.'

"I told him I'd rather name him Sweater before Cube."

Reddit had an absolute field day with this one, the post attracting almost 2,000 comments thus far.

"Who names their kid cube? What a block head," said one person.

"You'd have to travel to the four corners of the world to find a stupider name," added another.

"Even Rubik is better than Cube."

Others suggested some other mathematically-inspired monikers.

"Isaac (Newton), Albert (Einstein) or Alan (Turing). Or even Archimedes and call him Archie."

"How about Rube, which sounds like it's short for Reuben, but would be a nod to Rubik. Or for that matter name him Rubik and call him Rube, still a better choice than Cube."

According to the folks over at Baby Centre, th  name is not unheard of, but it's certainly pretty rare. Their alternatives for Cube include Gabe, Kobe, Coby, Koby, Kobi, Gab, Gabby, gab, Cobe, Cobi and Kuba.
