Controversy over bikini body onesie

A baby onesie featuring a curvy woman's body in a strapless polka dot binkini has caused a stir around the world.

First spotted for sale in Gordman's department store in Southaven, Mississippi, in the US, earlier this week, the onesie is sized for an 18 month old baby - and has parents divided.

When local television station Action News 5 polled passersby in the street, some said it was inappropriate and that they wouldn't dress their own child in it, while others argued that people were needlessly taking offense to a lighthearted joke.

When contacted for comment, the store said the company's president is the only one who is authorised to speak to the press, but he was out of town.

Gordman's website says it provides "trusted products that meet the standards of discerning parents everywhere with our unique blend of quality style and value".
