The chair that grows with the child.®

When you become a parent, the brand new life you gain seems to be in direct proportion to the life of your own of which you surrender.

There's the sleepless nights while your child fitfully slumbers for incredibly short periods, the meals eaten late and cold once your pride and joy has had their fill, and the constant visual reminder of what your home previously was: a testament to your taste and personal style.

Before you can say 'I think I'm having contractions', a crowd of garish cartoon characters, a sea of baby-blue or pastel pink garments and a forest of surprisingly cumbersome baby furniture has invaded your adult domain.

Of course, babies aren't adults, and kiddie collateral is part and parcel of the parenting experience, but surely parent and child can share some common ground? Surely we can inject a little style into our lives as we enjoy the quality time that parenting is all about?

For nearly 40 years Stokke's Tripp Trapp chair has been addressing this need, ensuring small children are included as part of the family while understanding a parent's desire for their home to be overrun with childish accoutrements.

The concept behind the Tripp Trapp is to bring parent and child together, and this is simply achieved through the exclusion of the traditional high-chair tray, and crucially, an amazing range of adjustability, allowing the Tripp Trapp to be brought right up to the family table. An egalitarian meal-time is born: big people and little people dining together, sharing the same space as a family unit.

The Tripp Trapp is the chair that grows with your child. The removable plastic baby set supports your child from around six months, when your baby can sit upright unaided. Easily taking the weight of a fully-grown adult, with a little Allen key magic the Tripp Trapp can comfortably accommodate every member of the family.

The chair has a unique depth adjustment, and when combined with the adjustable seat height and footrest, allows children of all ages to sit in ergonomic comfort with their back and feet supported, and their elbows at table height. In addition to promoting correct posture, the Tripp Trapp's designer Peter Opsvik knew that a comfortable child is better able to concentrate on other things, like the aeroplane coming in to land carrying an important consignment of pumpkin mash.

Elevating your child any distance from the ground requires a fair degree of trust in your furniture. The Tripp Trapp's solid construction and ergonomic design ensure that security goes hand in hand with comfort. The separately-sold baby set, 5-point safety harness and cushion are a great way to commence your little one's enjoyment of their very own chair that will last them into adulthood.

A mix-and-match colour range lets you decide which a durable wood finish would best suit your dining table, or maybe you'd prefer to choose a favourite colour for your child? Cushions come in a range of designs and are removed when your child grows out of the baby set, converting the Tripp Trapp into a more mature piece of furniture. The Tripp Trapp's dimensions make it surprisingly compact. It can be tucked right into the table alongside existing dining room chairs.

The extended life of what starts off as a high chair and becomes a regular chair makes the Tripp Trapp's upscale price tag extremely reasonable. The folks at Stokke know that the Tripp Trapp is purchased by canny parents as an investment, and accordingly they offer a seven-year warranty. The long-term value of the Tripp Trapp will see you using this durable piece of furniture on a daily basis for many years to come, unlike the ubiquitous plastic high-chair languishing in the garage, cracking and fading once your baby becomes a bulky toddler.

Watching your children grow vividly demonstrates just how quickly time flies by. Including your child in your daily activities from an early age creates a bond that serves them well throughout their lives. Allowing your baby to view you from the vantage point the Tripp Trapp provides means that you won't be forced to ease your bones down to the floor to interact, and they won't miss out on the activities that are obstructed when stuck in a rocker at floor-level.

With the frantic pace life seems to take it can be a struggle to make time to interact as a family. To share a meal around a table with the entire family is to create special memories and foster a sense of belonging. And to comfortably bring every member of the family together, from infant to child to adult, is what the Tripp Trapp does best. It’s not only an investment in a stylish piece of furniture, it’s an investment in your child’s future.

26 Jul A huge selling point for the Tripp Trapp, unlike a traditional highchair, the seat grows with your child. We spend so much money on baby products that can only be used for a few months, so it’s nice to actually get some longevity out of something.
